Hi P.S

Same here man. I too am looking forward to go in Sept. 2012/Jan 2013 intake. From what I understand.. most 1 year post grad programmes are just in reality only 8 months long(2 terms). So the Post graduate work permit we will get is just 8 months and not 1 year ,as they count the actual number of months u study. Although in CIC website they have mentioned that 2 years full time study means 8+8=16months of full time studies and hence they will be eligible for 3 years work PGWP. Although most 1 year courses (2 terms) are considered 8 months of study. So, along with your 8 months study if you pursue a course with 1 full SEM(4 months) internship, then you will have studied actual 8+4=12 months and hence the biggest benefit will be that you will get 12 months PGWP(post graduate work permit). However, some colleges may have strict GPA requirement and if you are unable to maintain that academic standard, you may not be eligible to continue internship. Although, it depends on college to college. So you will have more time in your hand to find an appropriate job.

By the way, where and which course you are applying?

I'm a PGDM holder (which is equivalent to MBA in India, but not equivalent to a Canadian MBA obviously), and so I can apply for post graduate course(1 or 2 years) in Canada. Centennial college is 1 of the most reputed and oldest college in Ontario. Well, regarding difficult or easy, it's hard to tell bcoz I too have never studied in a Canadian college and hence its difficult to say accurately. However, when it comes to GPA(out of 4.0) in most North American colleges and which was same in my PGDM course(here in India) too, let me tell you, GPA is not easy like regular percentage where easily somehow, we get 40-50% and move on.. NO GPA is competing with all classmates and grades will be different where just passing will be minimum 50% and the grade you receive will depend on whether your classmates have done better or worse than you. For example; Even if you score 80% and all your classmates are in 90% range, then despite getting 80% ,you will receive a very low grade/GPA cos most classmates have done better than you. That's how it works and its not at all easy to score high GPA's but it's not very tough either as regular study one can achieve decent GPA.

As per Centennial college site: http://www.centennialcollege.ca/international/internationalfees you need to maintain at-least 2.5 GPA out of 4.0 to be eligible for co-op/intern and the co-op/intern fees is just 350C$ and not an insane amount of 4k$ as u think! So, the co-op fees (part of regular tuition fees) is in that range for most colleges in Canada. I hope, I've cleared your queries and it's best to my knowledge.:) If any rectification seniors/others are welcome to add.

Btw, what's your qualification and where r u from? Which intake are you applying for? Is it Sept. 2012/Jan 2013? Are you looking at any other colleges/courses? Appeared for IELTS?

You are welcome buddy. So, you are going in MAY or SEPT 2012 intake?

I know, what it is! It clearly means.. if you are competitive enough to bag an internship (with above 2.5 GPA and good record and good resume, interview etc.) then the regular co-op/intern fees is 350C$, but in-case you don't qualify on your capability to bag an internship, you can simply buy it with 4000C$!!! [something like donation type here in India] :) It cannot be anything else. And by talent or by paying off,I think one must do the 4 months/1 SEM internship so as to get full 12 months CIC post grad work permit. :) I didn't know about this... thanks man.

Ya, it means it's up-to you if You can save that much money or not! That's the only logical reason for the college mentioning a lower co-op fees on website and a significant higher on acceptance letter being send to students.

I'm mostly going for JAN 2013 intake or probably SEPT2012 (but not sure). I too am applying for some Business related 1 year post graduate course in colleges like Centennial, George Brown etc.

Hi,

1. As you are already a PG Business graduate, may be you should think about MBA in Canada or 1 year 'Graduate Diploma in Business Administration' from the John Molson School of Business, Concordia University. It's a top ranking business school of Canada.

Hi Enfield,

I know quiet a few, and heard and read all over the web that many master's and PGDM holders from countries like India, go To Canada for Post Graduate courses in Colleges. One of the primary reason is that like me, not all are well qualified for admission to MBA's/ Master's in Canadian universities, as all of them require good academic record with high percentage/GPA's and many years of work ex, GMAT etc. and on top much more expensive to pursue. Thus the post graduate courses are the only option left. Believe me, my 1st choice was University and I've checked websites of nearly ALL the universities in Canada and their admission standards are high, not like in colleges where with an ample IELTS score and one is ready to go! And so many people opt for it. I'm sure, with my work experience (from previous employer), current business/self-employed record (with ITR returns), good IELTS, good financial position coupled with a SOP giving reason for me to come back and join self/family business, I think I should get a study permit! :D (At-least hoping for it! But we never know.)

And regarding 'Graduate Diploma in Business Administration' from the John Molson School of Business, Concordia University, as I said, I checked all possibilities for me in a Canadian university and unfortunately for this programme international students are not accepted! :( [http://johnmolson.concordia.ca/en/graduate-programs/graduate-diploma-administration/program-overview]

So do you think,I have a chance of getting the study permit? let me know your value opinion.

Thanks

1. Read once again. International students are eligible to apply for GDBA (Not GCBA).
2. Check Brock University, Ontario, MBA (Only International program), No GMAT.
3. Check Vancouver Island University, British Columbia, MBA (18 Month program/4 months paid internship/3 years PGWP), No GMAT.

Thanks for listing . But as I said, I did check nearly ALL universities and indeed these universities before, all of them require minimum B average that's 70% marks average in last two years of study/graduation. and I don't have that much. Admission criteria to Canadian universities are really high! :( Applying to colleges are my only option!

Hi,

1. Not a bad idea. We have one member 'Sandhujas', a MBA graduate from India + 2 (or may be 3) years of work experience; first rejected under SPP; visa approved in 2nd attempt for 'Global Business Management' (2 years PG Diploma Program) at Humber college, Ontario.
