Hello Experts,
I would have a question for you. I will talk an immigration lawyer tomorrow, but at the moment there is a lot of confusion in Me and my husband immigration case.
So: We live in Canada, more than two years from now. With 1st of December, we changed our residency from Quebec to BC, mostly for immigration reasons, since we are not speaking french. Both me and my Husband work in an LMIA Supported, Skilled position, the NOC code is 5241 (Graphic Designers and Illustrators), and this category falls into those NOC codes which are high demanded in BC, so it makes us eligible to the Techpilot program.
Our Current work permits are: I have an LMIA exempt work permit (case type: 52), which ties me to my former employee in Quebec, and my Husband has an Open work permit (case type: 20), thats why he could start to work immediately for his new employer here. Our Work permits will expire in 13th of April, so in 3 and a half months (Which is stressfully few in this Covid conditions...).
His contract includes that the Employer will support him in the Techpilot program, which is slowly starting, tomorrow we will have a session with an immigration lawyer about this.
BUT in the meantime when we waited for the answer from the lawyer, I got a job offer from an Employer, and since my work permit doesn`t allow me to work for them yet, and they are not eligible to support me a new LMIA based work permit, they offered me an immediate support to the PNP Techpilot program, because in the Techpilot program, alongside with the nomination letter I can get a work permit support letter, then a work permit. They said that they did that before, and under techpilot it is much faster than the normal streams, so they put the starting date to 11th of January, with the addition that they will wait for me if the process would delay.
So I have several problems now, and there are tons of confusions:
So, I know we will be smarter when the lawer reach us out, but until then I want to ask your opinion.

So I have several problems now, and there are tons of confusions:
- I got an ITA from the BC PNP Online, and already Applied, it was 23th of December. And since then my status is still "Applied". I know these things are not fast, and I am definitely sure that I won`t start to work next week, because it won`t finish, but there is any experience that how fast they process a PNP nomination for techpilot? Because of this I am suuuper stressed that we will slip through our current work permit expiration date (13th of April), so I am just hoping that at least we could apply for a work permit within our timeframe.
- And today we already exchanged an email with my Husband`s immigration lawyer, and it turned out that My company supported me, under the Skills Immigration - Skilled Worker categore, not the Express Entry - Skilled Worker category, and I don`t even have an Express Entry profile yet. And the Lawyer said this means if I got my nomination it allowes me to apply for the PR, but only paper based, not in Express Entry. Which is new for us, because we did not know this detail, just that the nomination gives us 600 points more to our Express Entry, where we would allpy under Canadian Experience Class. But now I am totally confused, because as I read the reagular paper based applications are super slow, takes up to 24 months, instead of the EE 6 months, which is muc worse now during the pandemic.
- I don`t entirely understand the Techpilot meaning, since its not an individual stream. My new employer said, if my NOC type falls under that NOC codes, what are eligible for the techpilot, my application will automaticaly treated as a Techpilot application. And One of the many sites write this: "The BC Tech Pilot is aligned with BC’s Skills Immigration programs. The programs best fitting for the Tech Pilot are the BC Skilled Worker and BC International Graduate programs. In order to apply for the BC Tech Pilot, a foreign national should verify that they meet the National Occupation Classification (NOC) code requirements for one of the 29 in-demand occupations. If this requirement is met, the person may initiate the application process by registering a profile with BC PNP Online."
So, I know we will be smarter when the lawer reach us out, but until then I want to ask your opinion.
- Is it true that The Skills Immigration stream I skipped the opportunity to applying for the PR online in the Express Entry?
- If so, is it worth to try the paper based process, or myy Husband still have the possibility to get a PNP nomination as we originally planned, through his employer, in the Express Entry Stream, so we can do that if we get our new work permit with my PNP nomination, and the PR go through in his side again. Which would be the best (fastest/safest) option?
