Hi all
I am trying to prepare the proof of funds.
I have an account with Bank of America(in USA) and I am currently in India.

I receive my bank statements online.
Will a simple bank statement of my checking account, with Bank of America, suffice for the proof of funds?

I have yet to see a case who showed proof of funds as an Online statement. I know that it works for Landing purposes but not for sending proof of funds for your application.

You can go to any BofA branch in India and get a real statement on their letterhead. You can try an Online statement but then keep your fingers crossed.

i think yes, u can. but it's better if u get it authentucated from any of their branches in India. wait till others say something.

Will an Indian branch of BofA be able to provide real statement of an account held in USA?
And also the online statement is what I receive from them. I disabled paper statement some time back, so I thought maybe a printout of that would serve as a proper statement for 'proof of funds'.

I called the new delhi brach of BofA and they said they cannot verify an account held in the USA. What other options do I have?

I sent an inquiry email to BofA regarding this. They sent the following response:

"Thank you for your inquiry dated 8/31/09 regarding the Immigration
letter. We are committed to providing you with the best banking
experience possible and we will be happy to assist you.

Unfortunately we are not able to send this letter via e-mail. However,
you can print your Online Statement and use them as a proof of funds.

If you have a US address, we are able to process your request for a
reference letter. Please note that a fee will be applied for this
request. "

So what are your suggestions on this now?

So it means that BofA has indirectly refused to provide hard copy/letter head bank statement. So you should provide all these correspondence as an evidence with online statement and lodge ur application. Or u should open a new account in the Indian based branch, transfer ur funds in that and then get the letter headed bank statement.

others might have different opinions on this.

They definitely ask for an original statement from a bank not a printout from the web. If you have anyone in the US, they can receive the statement and send it to you to India. Jojobaba made a good point that you can tranfer the funds to your Indian account.
Yeah, these bank statements are pain in the .... It took me a while to explain them here in the US that I need a signed statement rightaway from them cause I couldn't wait for my statement to arrive.
