Experts,

During a soft landing of 1 week, i would like to open a bank account. i would like to know:

1. how much minimum amount do i need to open a bank account ?
2. And how much amount do i need to maintain in the account so that my account does not get deactivated while i am outside Canada ?

Any general bank figures would be helpful to me.

Opened one in RBC recently
1) no minimum account
2) no transactions on my account last 2 months and is active.

While at it, be sure to understand the rate structure on the account. You dont want to lose money in charges over an account that's not in use, unless you'll be settling within a few months.

Most backs offer no minimum accounts, fees are a pain though. No real free banking here generally and when it is free sortoff (it comes will all kinds of sucky conditions)
