Hi,

I am about to file my application for Citizenship. I lived in Bangalore India. In all my earlier applications like PR application etc. I specified "Bangalore". However now name of the city officially changed to Bengaluru, I am wondering what I should specify in the application?

I fear if I write Bengaluru (which is official name of the city from today) it might sound like discrepancy with my earlier applications and cause unnecessary delay.

OR shall I write like Bangalore (Bengaluru).

Thanks in advance.

You can attach a note along with application saying that former name of the city was Bangalore .

I assume all your ID cards would be saying Bangalore. I 'd recommend Bangalore henceforth. It might officially be changed; but both names are recognized world wide.

Be sure to be consistent though, as much as possible... All the best

I agree with djsunman. Also, if there is official information(e.g. from the gov't website, etc) stating this change, you can attach it as well.

Thanks for the reply. I plan to do the following:

Write Bangalore in my application as my earlier application for PR renewal etc had Bangalore and add the note that name has been changed formally to Bengaluru but it is also called (a.k.a.) Bangalore.

OR

Write in the City column as Bangalore (a.k.a Bengaluru).

Which one sounds best?
