Background declaration.. Question about status.

In the new background declaration form they ask you to provide any past and current immigration status.

I had a work visa for a year, but I only worked for 6 months since the company I was working for was sold. So
I still had 6 months left in my visa but I wasn't working. I was just home with my then girlfriend and now my wife.

1-So in that case what was my status during those 6 months?

The second thing is that after that my now wife and then girlfriend got really sick and I ended up having t stay to look after her
and our baby. I know that from that point on I was out of status, however the form doesn't give you that option. It only gives you foreign national and other, but after other there is no space to type anything.

2-What should I choose or do in that case?
