background check before or after interview

is it typical for an interview to be done before or after the background check? hubby did his interview and was told they have to complete back ground check.i thought it was the other way around.thanks guys.

Not necessary. It depends on individual cases and not all applicants are interviewed. Background check is conducted by the Canadian Goverment without the participation of the applicant.

Background checks take for ever ! Although they are the last step in the whole process along with security checks , seems like an eternity waiting for them .I've been waiting almost 6 month !
