I have already applied for Skilled Immigrations. I did my four year Pharamacy degree in UK and then one year of paid internship in a local pharmacy. The internship is required for full registration as a Pharamcist in Great Britain. So basically after my four years of education I had my degree but could not practise till I did my intership and did my registration exam. Now my questions are

a) In Britains due to the compelxity of the Pharamacy degree a three years Bachelor program was converted into four years Masters program. I did the Master program and graduated with a Masters degree in Pharmacy. How many points do I get there?

b) Does my one year internship count towards work experience?

Pls assist!

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/search-results/-t14913.0.html;msg62738;topicseen#msg62738

Below is a detailed description of all factors that are to be assessed.

Factor 1 Points are awarded for earned educational credentials as well as the number of
Education years of full-time studies or full-time equivalent studies. To be awarded
(maximum points, you must meet both stated criteria.
of 25

academic year. This includes any period of workplace training that forms part of
the course.

Full-time equivalent studies: If you completed a program of study on a
part-time or accelerated basis, count the length of time it would have taken to
complete the program on a full-time basis.

Use the chart below to determine your points. If you have not completed the
number of years of study that correspond to your highest educational
credential, award yourself points based on the number of years of study.

Example 1: If you have a Master's degree but have completed only 16 years of
full-time study, award yourself 22 points.
Example 2: If you have a four-year Bachelor's degree and have completed 14
or more years of study, award yourself 20 points.

mine is a little different case... How will my points be calculated?

My education is

till high school - 10+2 years
Bachelors degree - 4 yrs
2 yr full time Post Grad Diploma in Management 2 yrs
Total 18 years

can i claim 25 points?

My wife's education is

till high school - 10+2 years
Bachelors degree - 4 yrs

I presume this can gather 4 points.

Please reply, gurus...

i have the read this link. I would award myself 25 points. What do u think? would me internship be counted as part of the degree? Because I got the degree irrespective of the internship. Its just that I cuold not practise till I did the one year and sat the registration exam.

I am also keen to know if degree-related internships are taken into account for PR applications.

do you have 17 years of education without the internship ? it sounded like that from your previous post. if that is the case, you'd get 25 points.

I think for doctors, their residency is counted as work, not education. So i would think your internship might be counted as work. I am guessing.

Thanks rupeshwari...that is what I gathered too. I have done my Pharmacy evaluation exam for canada and passed it too (this means my degree is recongnised as an equivalent to the one offered in canada). Would it be worth submitting this passing document? Would it make my chances better?

I don't know if it makes your chances better but it definitely cannot hurt it. It might make you look like someone who could economically sustain him/herself in Canada quickly.
