If a friend come to Canada and has a baby here. Can this be done and the cost if possible?

what do you mean - to have a baby in Canada in a visitor status? yes, it's possible, but pretty costly.

It is possible. I have heard costs ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 for a birth without complications. If there are complications, it can of course cost a lot more.

well, I was in the same condition as almost all my pregnancy period was passed with me being in a visitor status, and by the time our baby was delivered the OHIP coverage hadn't started yet... all the period we used midwives to look after my pregnancy that cost nothing except some blood work tests (about $40 each). the delivery was free too, as it was done with a help of midwives, we just paid hospital fees that was around $400.
but if one decides to use obstetrician's help the final cost can be up to $5000 together with hospital fees.

If the friend is thinking about using a midwife, make sure you make some calls to find out if you can book one easily in your area. In some areas, there are so few of them that it is impossible to get one unless you book as soon as you get pregnant.
