Hi,

If a child is born in Canada to a Canadian citizen parent and a non-Canadian parent, is the child automatically Canadian citizen? Is the child covered by provincial health insurance?

If the Canadian parent was either born in Canada or 'naturalized' in Canada, the answer is yes. If not, then the baby will need to be sponsored.

Regarding Healthcare, it depends on the province and the rules of the provincial government. But generally speaking there's a 3 months 'quarantine' delay after arrival in Canada where the person is not covered, with few exceptions.

Even if the parents are both illegal immigrants the child will be Canadian :D

It's called the right of soil.

The only exception is when one of the parents is a diplomat representing a foreign country in Canada, the child won't be Canadian then.

Thanks -- suppose that baby is given Canadian citizenship at birth. Then there is no 3 month waiting period for provincial coverage?

Right, no waiting period for the child.

Sorry, I didn't read the question well. Thought the birth was occurring outside Canada... so yes, as it has been said after my wrong post automatic citizenship at birth and no waiting period. :D congrats for the baby :)
