Can anyone who has their PR card please chime in? Hoping to have it by 45 days as we have to go back to India (really don't want to have to deal with obtaining travel documents for my husband to come back without his PR card). Should we have it by then?

Lately they have been taking around 2 months. CIC's website states 56 days, but most have been around 60 that have reported lately. Might speed up again now that Christmas has passed.

Yep...here is the link. You have to be outside canada to apply. Hopefully they speed up the cards and he get it before leaving. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/travel-document/

Question for this. So once a decision has been made on your PR application they probably send you some type of letter right? I take this letter to "land" - once I'm landed I will be living in Canada officially right? What if I need to commute daily between the USA and Canada for work? What do I do for the 2 months while waiting for my PR? I should be free to travel between the two countries since they don't require a visa to travel between them, right?

Yes if you applied outland, they'll send you a COPR and it will have a date that you need to enter Canada by.

If you travel by private vehicle on land you do not need the pr travel document and will be able to commute back and forth. But if you are flying you'd need to wait for the PR card. The travel document takes time and wouldnt work for daily travel.

Thank you. Yes, I'll be driving each day, not flying. So I'm all good, no worries :D

The PRTD is irrelevant for US citizens since we can board a plane from the us with only our passport and then present our COPR at point of entry at canada.

your COPR and Passport are accepted for entry into Canada by vehicle, so not having your PR card isn't an issue. essentially, the PR card is only needed for commercial air travel for those needing a visa or ETA to travel to canada.

So is it difficult to obtain? Like could they refuse it for him since we left before he had the card? Will they grill us why we had to leave? According to the condition 51 we have to cohabitate for 2 years and since it's ME (the sponsor) who actually has to go back to India (for an Internship) then to maintain cond 51 he has to come with me (since it's for 6 months). We'll be back in August 2017. Will CIC be upset at us for not waiting until he had the card?
