HI, I have been fully paid for two years as a POSTDOC, but my work permit started on 10th Sept 2009 and ended on 31 Aug, 2011. I have stayed as visitor till 30 Nov, 2011. I am short of 9 days for 2 year Canadian experience, however, I was paid fully for this two year period supported by pay slips. Can I apply under CEC or Do I have to change to FSW? Please clarify this.

Regards,
Aditya

1. When did you start and stop your job? Full-time or part-time?
2. Are you a PhD student?
3. Did you get your work experience after graduating?
4. When did you graduate? To apply for the skilled worker program as a PhD graduate, you must have graduated no more than 12 months before the date your application is received.

Here's information about the skilled worker stream:

HI SanoritaBella,
Thanks for reply.
I finished my Ph.D. in India. I was a full time postdoctorate in McGill University and and received full fellowship for two years. I landed in Montreal on 9th Sept 2009 and got work permit there. My work permit (exteded stay) ended on 31st Aug, 2011 and I stayed three more months as a visitor. Actually it is two year fellowship but my work permit starts on 9th sept 2009, but I was paid for all those 9 days where I was not in Canada. Does it affects "at least two year " condition on CEC. Hope you understand the problem and waiting for you reply soon.

Thanks.
Aditya

Based on the span of your work permit (and the current strict requirement of 2 yrs), CIC is very likely to refuse your application.

The work experience requirement is a MINIMUM of 2 years, and the work must be authorized (e.g. performed under a valid work permit). Unfortunately, you do not meet the work requirement for CEC.

Since you did not earn your PhD in Canada, you would not qualify under the PhD stream, and the priority occupations stream has been put on hold (no applications being accepted). There is the Quebec Skilled Workers stream if you want to stay in Quebec, but I don't know what the requirements are.

Your best bet right now is to find another job. Post-doc at McGill is nothing to sneeze at - are you seeking an academic position? If so, universities are pretty good at getting work permits for faculty members (not so much for staff, tho). Then you could apply under CEC after another month of working, or under the FSW arranged employment stream...
