Hello,

I am a British national looking to go down the Express Entry/PNP route; I am just starting out my application but I am trying to be as prepared as possible. I currently work in medical communications/publishing. But have no idea to what NOC my work falls under. As background, I am a 26 year old BSc (Hons) Genetics graduate.

Can anyone take a look at the following job description and give me their best idea at what NOC this would be?

Job Title: Project Coordinator

This is a great opportunity for a recent Life Sciences graduate (Biomedical modules) to further their scientific knowledge whilst developing commercial experience within the publishing industry. This is a highly visible role within the organization and one which is key to our success within the reprints market. The role involves working closely with the wide variety of content published by Springer as well as maintaining strong links with our global offices.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying articles of interest to our pharmaceutical company customers. Content will be identified from Springer’s own portfolio of journals as well as our commercial partners’ publications, entered into our internal databases in a timely and accurate way, and disseminated to our global reprint sales teams.

The role includes the following responsibilities:
  • Using scientific knowledge and excellent time management skills, undertake the analysis of peer-reviewed medical journals to identify clinically relevant phase-trialed articles and identify relevant reprint sales opportunities, key marketing messages and appropriate target clients.
  • Accurately enter article details into our internal database (SMART) using administrative skills.
  • Produce weekly alerts detailing newly published saleable articles and relevant pharmaceutical news stories to send to our global sales teams.
  • Writing and publishing internal newsletters titled "Hot Topic" - This takes the form of an indication-specific (usually topically relevant in the instance of a new drug approval in the therapy area etc.) lay summary to condense postgraduate level clinical knowledge to better equip our sales teams when having high level conversations with health care professionals.
  • Using our internal databases and business intelligence products, produce custom reports to help inform our sales people (e.g. producing drug pipeline reports).
  • Planning of our company conference calendar - outline the year's most important medical conferences that our company should be attending to generate brand exposure and increase global recognition of our services; whether that be the need to publish an article in one of our journals, to procure reprints or explore one of the many avenues of medical education we offer.
  • Support the maintenance and development of commercial partnerships with other publishers.
  • Develop expertise with SMART & SAPCRM systems to support global colleagues.

Person specification
Essential
  • A Life Sciences degree (Biomedical modules).
  • Proven ability to quickly take in and evaluate scientific data.
  • Demonstrates timely and accurate data entry skills.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates computer literacy, with experience of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Exhibits strong organisational and time management skills, and attention to detail.
Desirable
  • Previous experience of the pharmaceutical and/or publishing industry(s)
  • Knowledge of the drug development process /clinical research trials.
  • Presentation and training skills.
Travel Requirements
  • Some travel within the UK/Europe/USA may be required.

I know this is long but I wanted the most thorough breakdown of my responsibilities. I appreciate anyone taking the time to look at this and weigh in with their opinion/expertise.

Cheers,

Will

Thanks for your help; do you know what kind of turnaround time there is for a reply?

Anyone else have anything to add?

Thanks

Sorry I don't know. I never actually e-mailed them myself about NOC code, just saw this e-mail address in other threads.

For me, it took less 24 hours but I'd say give it 24-72 hours for a response

In your email to them, include your level of education, industry sector and minimum education requirement for the job.

They may not be very helpful and say that they weren't able to identify a NOC for you or happen to give wrong NOC at times. Try your luck and see how it goes anyways. You may be directed rightly too.

I didn't go in depth, but thought 1221 might be decent fit for you.

http://noc.esdc.gc.ca/English/NOC/ProfileQuickSearch.aspx?val=1&val1=1221&ver=&val65=project

If that doesn't fit, do check the ones listed as related occupations the same link.

Always remember this.. you choose a NOC that closely aligns to your profession/job duties, and then while getting reference letter, it should be tailored for what is written in NOC website.. like a paraphrased or similar sounding ones. It must align closely with the lead statement given in NOC website. It should be in plain English and no technical terms. A lay person reading your letter should be able to connect to your NOC. It should not be a copy paste obviously.

If you give what is given in your job description as it is, the officer would likely reject your case or ask for a different letter saying that job duties don't match your claimed NOC.

If you don't get any response from that NOC division is CIC, try Docveri.com. it's a 3rd party paid service and they've helped me with my 2 NOCs (cost me $30 USD). I've been approved for PR so I said they were right on the mark! Was really pleased with their service.
