Hi,

I will create my EE profile in a couple of months, so here's my question:

I started working on May 25th, 2015, on a skilled NOC B job, full-time.
I had just graduated, as an international student a month ago, and I had applied for my PGWP online, on May 15th, 2015.

I knew that I can work full-time, without a work permit, based on R186(w): http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/section-186.html
And: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/students/work-off-campus.asp

Also from: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/students/post-grad.asp
Note: Paragraph 186(w) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations allows students who have completed their program of study to work while they are waiting for a decision on their work permit application as long as they were a full-time student enrolled at a designated learning institution in a post-secondary academic, vocational or professional training program, and they did not exceed the allowable hours of work.

Here's the complexity:
Later, I found out about flagpoling, and being from a visa-exempt country, it was really easy for me..
So I went and got my PGWP at the PoE, on July 9th, 2015.

Later, on November, I received a letter of withdrawal from CIC, stating their records indicate I already had my PGWP.

Sooo, does my experience for my EE profile count from May 25th, while transitioning to PGWP, or I have to use the July 9th date, when I actually received my permit?

Re: @ Asivad, Scylla, Leon - PGWP transition

Thank you Asivad!

May I ask the source of that information? Is it because work that has been done without a valid work permit, even perfectly legal in that case, does not count for CEC?

I was under the impression that the transitioning phase would suffice..

Work done while you are a full-time student doesn't get you CRS points. You stop being a full-time student only when your PGWP activates, the transitioning phase doesn't count.

Isn't that how it is or am i wrong?

So when I create my profile, let's say on July 9th, what should I put as start date of my employment period and experience?

Because according to my offer of employment and reference letter (T4 and NOA also), my work has officially started on May 25th.

Go with July. Doesn't matter when you started working, matters when your 'claim' starts.

If I go with July, and my original job offer states May, as my reference letter, won't that create some sort of confusion?
I was thinking to put May, and include a letter of explanation, regarding the transition to PGWP period, and R186(v) & (w), to explain the work period from May to July.

Either way, I am not worried about when I actually complete 1 year under CEC, I understand that is July. I almost have a PNP - Pre Screen Approval (my employer received a phone interview last week), so my plan is to apply under International Student with Job Offer stream.

So I was thinking of how to explain to OINP the above situation, since I need to submit all relevant documents (NOA/T4, offer letter, reference letter).

I am leaning towards including a LOE, explaining in detail the period from May-July, transition to PGWP, authorization to work witout a work permit - R186 (v), (w), including also excerpts from the IRPA regulation, and CIC website that explain the process. (Printout and highlight the sections needed).

I had found out (when I flagpoled to get my PGWP) that not many people are familiar with that.. (The CBSA officer was not at least, she mentioned at the beginning that I had worked without authorization)..
Then I explained all the above, included proof of my online submission for PGWP, and everything went smooth after that.

What do you think?

Makes sense. The real challenge is that if you input May in EE profile, the system will award you the entire year of experience right away so be mindful of that.

Thank you, I understand what you're saying..

However, I don't believe I will be creating my profile/receiving the OINP nomination before July, so that might do the trick after all..
