Hi

I just finished my MBA Program from University of Alberta, Edmonton in June 2015 and received the official completion letter from the University on July 6, 2015, which I used for applying a Post Graduate Work Permit. My question is: Since the completion letter is good enough for applying a Post Graduate work permit, is this completion letter good enough to prove the completion of a Canadian Degree to claim points in EE? I talked to the University and asked if I can get the 'fancy' degree document sooner but they said I cannot get it before convocation, which is in Nov 2015. They also said that our completion letter has been used by people to submit to CIC and we haven't received any complaints of it being not working as a proof of completion of the degree. So, can I use the completion letter to go ahead and claim points for having completed a Canadian degree and submit it later on to CIC when I get an ITA?

2. I have 2 years and 11 months of experience (out of Canada) in NOC 6221. I then left the job and joined another company after 5 days of leaving the previous one and worked there for 1 month and 12 days under the same NOC (NOC 6221). Can I attach the both experiences to claim points for 3 years of work ex? Or does that 5 day gap as written above will make the work ex discontinuous and prevent me from claiming points for 3 years of work ex, even though my first 2 years and 11 months have been continuous and both the work exes are in the same NOC?

Awaiting your kind reply..

Thanks in advance

Given the background information you have received from the University, it appears that you can submit it to CIC without any concerns. Just make sure that the certificate was issued after you got the ITA.

You can use discontinuous (in the sense of being interrupted) work experience while counting towards CRS scores. In your case, you can add them up to showcase that as 3 years of experience.

Hello Asivad

Thanks a lot...I have a question now..you said I need to make sure that the letter of completion is issued after I get the ITA. But while filling the EE Profile it asks "Do you have a Canadian degree?" if I say Yes, I must have, before declaring in the EE profile, an official proof that I have completed a Canadian Degree. Doesn't this imply that the Letter of Completion should be dated prior to I submit an EE profile? Moreover, I have the completion letter dated 6th July 2015, and the University will not issue me a new letter, wouldn't this letter dated 6th July 2015 work for proof of a Canadian degree?

Thanks in advance

My bad. That was a silly mistake fraught with terrible consequences.

Of course, it should have been before. What I meant was that you can't claim points for something you don't have so your letter of completion must predate your ITA. You can add other supplementary evidences that you receive at later points in time but that primary document should be dated prior to your ITA date.

Hope that clarifies.

Ya thanks for clarifying. A couple questions more:

I had an EE profile before, I got an ITA but had to decline it because of some reasons (I filled in some wrong info in the work history-discussing them in detail would be out of context here). I withdrew my profile. Now if I create a new profile, add in fresh information and then receive ITA, and go ahead with applying, will the information that is in pre populated sections be from the older withdrawn profile or from the newer profile? I know this question sounds like stupid, but I asked because people have complained that the info from the older profile is being seen pre populated in the post ITA application form, even though they declined the ITA and perfected the same EE profile. Will withdrawing the old profile and creating the new one with fresh info (like I did) will cause the same problem?

If your answer is that the info from the old profile is pre populated in the post ITA Application form even if you have got the ITA on a new profile after withdrawing the older profile, how can I overcome this technical glitch?

2. Since I have a Canadian degree, I know I did not need an ECA for my 4 years Bachelors degree from India. But I got it done (I applied for the ECA before I knew that I did not need it). Now since I have the ECA with me, although I do not need it, can I attach it when I will submit the documents to CIC? Or will it cause any problem?

3. As we just discussed that Letter of completion is fair enough to prove the completion of a Canadian degree, should I attach a LOE along with it stating that it will work instead of the 'actual' degree document? Or will be complicating things by attaching an LOE? What I fear is being rejected because of incomplete documents without being given a chance to explain. Please comment.

Thanks in advance

Not sure about this technical glitch - might have been isolated case. In any case, you can edit your post ITA profile provided you do not change anything which affects your CRS points and/or program eligibility. Even if the information doesn't transfer through properly, you can make edits later.

Either adding it or not adding it won't cause any problems. Your choice if you want to keep it in the profile or not. It is strictly redundant.

An LOE is definitely in order here. If the officer is looking 'only' for the degree and doesn't find that document, they might reject you. Do attach a well drafted and polite LOE here.

Thanks in advance

Hi Asivad,

Some more questions for you please.

1). My personalized checklist is asking for my wife's name change document after she got married to me. Our marriage certificate has her old last name. Is that combined with an LOE explaining how her name changed after marriage sufficient proof or I need to provide something additional? When we got her new passport with the new surname they only asked for the marriage certificate in my country so I'm hoping this should be fine. Not sure if people provide something else.

2). I put in my wife's education but we never got her ECA and said No for the ECA. The checklist is still asking for her proof of education. Is this normal and to avoid any confusion do I need to include an LOE with screenshots showing that we never got any ECA for her and didn't claim any points? I always thought that if we answered no for ECA then they don't ask for any proof as we didn't get any points. Very weird that it is asking.

3). Also for multiple PCC's are they loaded as one document or we can load separate multiple files under the upload section?

4). Also I have some government issued documents with dual language. They have both English and Arabic, i.e one half includes the information in english and the other half includes the same information in Arabic. I don't think I need a letter from a translator for this but would be great to hear your thoughts.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

The most definitive evidence would naturally be a legal document that announce the change of name. As that is not available (because you never did change the name legally), your proposed solution is the best possible alternative.

2). I put in my wife's education but we never got her ECA and said No for the ECA. The checklist is still asking for her proof of education. Is this normal and to avoid any confusion do I need to include an LOE with screenshots showing that we never got any ECA for her and didn't claim any points? Weird indeed. Try editing the profile and removing your wife's education details. If that is possible , the system won't ask for the documents. If that is not possible, send in a detailed LOE highlighting that you added these details purely for profile completeness and that these details are entirely irrelevant to the application since you are neither claiming not getting any eligibility or CRS points and there is no associated ECA as well.

3). Also for multiple PCC's are they loaded as one document or we can load separate multiple files under the upload section?

Multiple documents. Add an LOE to explain the document if it appears too complicated.

4). Also I have some government issued documents with dual language. They have both English and Arabic, i.e one half includes the information in english and the other half includes the same information in Arabic. I don't think I need a letter from a translator for this but would be great to hear your thoughts.

You don't need a letter from the translator if the English version sufficiently covers what is required for that section. But an LOE is in order to explain to the hapless CIC officers (who might not know Arabic) that the Arabic part is exactly the same as the English part and not additional information.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Thanks for the responses Asivad. As always very insightful!

I'm thinking about the wife education without ECA and subsequent request for documents on the checklist. I believe if deleted from the education part the requirement disappears. But I am a bit uncomfortable with doing that as I feel I might be misrepresenting. The way the section is filled is that they ask for the information and then ask if there is an ECA or not. Seems like that as long as you have an entry the proof of education is asked for.

So the way I see it I have two options.

Option 1: Delete it and have a difference between my profile before ITA and my PR application but no request for documents. Can still include LOE explaining why I deleted.

Option 2: Provide the diploma and transcript with an LOE with screenshots showing that I selected no ECA performed and a screenshot from my ITA letter showing no points received for spouse education, but still providing educational documents for profile completeness sake.

Do you feel option 2 is a better approach to go with or 1 is better in terms of minimizing any issues. I think it is a glitch in the system and probably there are many others in the same boat as I am.

Thanks in advance.

Undoubtedly, option 1. Keep it simple. In fact, I would go with Option 1 without an LOE because what you are doing makes no material difference to your program eligibility and/or CRS points. So there is no question of misrepresentation (which is deliberate untruths to gain unfair advantage) or explaining your actions using an LOE.

Hi Asivad,

Please I need your advice, my EE profile contains me, my wife and our two sons under 5 years old. Our score is 450 and I have always believed that CRS will not drop to this level, this isn’t based on any facts its just a feeling I have had.

Now am thinking if it doesn’t drop to 450 in the next two draws I will remove myself from the application which will give us enough points to get an ITA and them have my wife sponsor me when she gets hers PR. In the mean time I will just go to Canada as a visitor and stay for six months at a time, I don’t need a visa to visit as I am a British citizen and we have enough money saved up that will allow me not to need to work for 2 years, my question is as followed.

• Is this allowed
• How long do we have to wait before she can sponsor me
• When six months is up can I simply leave the country for a couple of days, return and be allowed to stay another six months

Thanks in advance.

Yes

• How long do we have to wait before she can sponsor me

I imagine that is possible as soon as she gets her PR status but probably she would need a few months to settle down in the country, maybe acquire a PR card and initiate spousal sponsorship process in a few months time. The process can then take anywhere from 12-24 months.

• When six months is up can I simply leave the country for a couple of days, return and be allowed to stay another six months

I'm guessing here but that certainly sounds doable esp with her PR status. Others can weigh in with their opinions on this front.

Thanks in advance.

hello Asivad,

I need your insight on some issues before me. My score is currently 369 . Im hopint to increasse my score by retaking IELTS again . However, my questions are:
1. i did a 2 year diploma at a polytechnic before i went ahead for my BSc... i included it in my educational history on EE. should i have it accessed and if yes, will it gain me more points? (i already had my BSc accessed by ICAS)
2. i started work in august 2011 and resigned oct 31st 2012 to work in my current office..ive been here since nov 6 2012 (just 6 days gap). does this count for me as 3 years cos i know i will get more points if that counts.

thanks in advance for the response. ive been so confused on what to do as ive set the ball rolling on getting my transcript from the polytechnic.
