Arriving at the border and hoping for the best is SCARY

We have our application all ready to go and are sending it out tomorrow. Dh (who is American) leaves in the moving truck on the 11th and the kids and I fly into Boston on the 17th (kids are dual citizens). We'll caravan and cross at St Stephen on the 18th. I hope. :p

It is so scary that the border officer may just decide to not let him in. When I call, they say, "Oh! Absolutely you can live in Canada while your application is being processed! However they may deny your husband entry." Argh!

I wish we'd been able to do this the right way, but things just didn't work out that way.

I wish we could apply inland instead of outland, but I think that it would be even worse without the application in process.

Our app has my Mom's PO Box in Canada as our mailing address and our current address here in the US as our residential (which we'll change as soon as we move). I hope that doesn't cause problems.

It should be OK. Have your husband keep a copy of the application and fee receipt with him when he crosses the border to prove he has applied. Most forum members have been let in under these circumstances.

I can relate, I did the border thing a few months ago...

In-land does have the advantage that your husband is going to be able to stay for the length of the process, and possibly work, whereas outland you have to keep applying for extensions and as a visitor no working allowed.

Lots of topics on this board already covered the details to come into Canada as a visitor (should have some evidence he intends to returnt o US). Good luck! I swear every time we cross the border I pee my pants.
