Hello.

I was detained by the Canadian border patrol some years ago for not having enough ties to my home country. I was given the allowed to leave Canada/withdrawal of my request to enter Canada form, etc. The last flight to my home had already left since this was an incredibly long process, and I was held overnight at the airport. Customs had some kind of jail facility underneath.

Would that be considered an arrest, or a detention? I'd like to go to a different part of Canada with my family and I was wondering if this is going to cause issues. It was around 10-12 years ago, I have not tried re-entry since, and I was immediately returned to the United States on the next flight out.

Thank you

No, it won't appear in your record as you withdrew your application. So you may get asked why you decided to withdraw it but the whole point of this process is that it doesn't affect your future attempts.
