Dear all, my wife and I hold 2-year worker visa from Dec 2017 to Nov 2019. We have entered Canada for 5 months. I get salary payment and pay Alberta tax since January 2018. My baby was born at March this year. I wonder whether we are eligible for the Child Birth Benefit? Is it mandatory for temporary worker to live longer than 18 months to get CCB? Thanks for any advice.

No - you are not eligible at this time.

Yes - it's mandatory to live in Canada longer than 18 months before you can qualify.

Thanks very much for the reply, Scylla. If so, except this benefit, is there any other child benefit we are eligible in Alberta? Also, I am not clear with our residency status, for temporary workers, which one fits us: Resident, Deemed Residents, or Deemed Non-resident?

I don't live in Alberta and am not aware of any other child benefits.

You would be classified as residents.

OK, got it. I will see Alberta rule for this question. Much thanks, Scylla.
For CCTB the rule is the same for all provinces. It doesn't matter where you live and there's no specific Alberta rule.

Alberta may have other benefits - however you definitely do not qualify for CCTB.
