Arbitrary denials at the Canadian Embassy in Havana.

Relatives of Cuban-Canadians are routinely and arbitrarily denied visitor visas at the Canadian Embassy in Havana, Cuba; this is something that has been affecting the Cuban-Canadian community for years.

My sister has been denied a visa twice based on reasons that do not make sense and/or expressly contradict the information she provided to the visa officer. Nothing suggested that she was going to request political refugee status in Canada.

Canada claims to stand for family values and it is shameful that Cuban-Canadians feel that it is always a gamble when it comes to be visited by their dear ones in their adoptive land. Becoming a Canadian citizen, when it comes to Cubans, means we are becoming 2nd class citizens as we don't have the same rights as the rest of the Canadian population. This is not right.

Please help put an end to the notoriously unfair decisions made at the Canadian Embassy in Havana by signing the petition I started to the Canadian Minister of Immigration (This site won't allow to post links, please email me and I'll send you the link.)

I created a blog that will provide day-to-day updates on everything else I am doing to help right this wrong. (For the blog address, email me) I also created a Facebook group: Let my sister visit Canada.
