Hello everyone,
I read on the website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/caregiver/index.asp that live in caregivers have some news:
IMPORTANT

Effective April 1, 2010, live-in caregivers working in Canada under the Live-in Caregiver Program:

* have two options for calculating their work experience to be eligible to apply for permanent residence:
o 24 months of authorized full-time employment, or
o a total of 3,900 hours of authorized full-time employment;
* have four years from their date of arrival to complete the employment requirement to be eligible for permanent residence under the Program; and
* no longer need to undergo the standard mandatory requirement for a second medical exam when applying for permanent residence.

Now, my question is....I have been here in ontario as live in caregiver since july 2009....so I am going to go with the past law or that news change my position?
Please, reply me...because it seems that every day there is something new and bad...
thanx
Giuly

There are two options and you can apply for permanent residency in either. I think it is good for those who worked more than 40 hours per week (option 2) and those who had been been here working as a live in caregiver but did not finish the 24 months in 3 years (option 1).

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5290E2.asp

Option Length of authorized full-time employment
1 Having completed 24 months of authorized full-time employment as a live-in caregiver within four years from the date you entered Canada under the Live-in Caregiver Program, OR
2 Having completed a total of 3,900 hours (within a minimum of 22 months which may include a maximum of 390 hours of overtime) of authorized full-time employment as a live-in caregiver within four years from the date you entered Canada under the Live-in Caregiver Program. [/table]

Regarding option 1, where a caregiver can apply to PR after 24 months of full time.
But how many hours per week is FULL TIME?

My contract says 6 hr/day (or 30 hours per week). Is it enough (in Ontario)?

I found this in the website of hrsdc:
"full-time work should be defined as 30 hours per week or more for the purpose of the Live-in Caregiver Program"

But I heard rumors they will require more hours. Anyone knows for sure?
(This is for Ontario)

Hi.
I received a contract from an employer in Ontario...and I will be working 35 hours per week.. I am still doubting about the number of hours needed to apply for a PR in Canada after 2 years of work as a live-in caregiver...Maybe someone knows anything about the situation regarding this youth program right now.
Thank you.
Tanya :)

You need 3900 hours to apply for PR under the LCP. @30 hours per week you will have to work 130 weeks to be eligible.
