Hi all,

This is a great forum! I was hoping to get some answers to some questions that I have been pondering for a while, to ensure that when I apply for residency soon, it’s going to be worth it.

I have lived in Canada now for 2 yrs, on the Australian Working Holiday Program (just extended for another 2 years as well). I have been with the same employer (finance) for 4 years (two in Canada, two in Oz). With regard to my role here, I have had several titles, however each title essentially has been the same job description which I believe fits NOC Class 1122 – I’ve been involved in many different duties across process improvement, project management, risk management audits, cost analysis, staff engagement, corporate strategy (the list goes on), as a Business Analyst (Associate Manager) reporting to senior and director level management. Perhaps most specifically, my role was previously call Service Quality Administrator (Senior Associate) – a title that didn’t fit the responsibilities involved, therefore was changed after a year to Analyst. Will my work experience here be evaluated on my duties, or on my titles throughout the past two years? My prior two years of experience in Oz were as a Senior Insurance Consultant if it’s worth anything.

My employer will not sponsor me, nor pay for an LMO determination (I have no requirement with my visa to have one), although I am employed on a permanent, full time basis. They will provide all the letters required, and work history to match. Assuming my work experience is sufficient, the lack of an LMO decision is irrelevant, right? Do I indicate that I have a permanent job offer, or not, given these circumstances?

Further, I am still in the process of completing my tertiary education, and have finished the equivalent of 2 yrs full time study (for a 3 yr degree). I’ve read here that partial qualifications don’t count, again assuming my work experience is sufficient, my education is irrelevant and no transcripts are necessary, correct?

Essentially (correct me if I’m wrong), if my work experience of two years is considered within Skill 0, A or B, I see this as the only real requirement (outside of health and language), and everything else is just gravy (in regards to the degree and permanent job offer). In case it’s worth anything, I’m also 22, and speak both English and French.

Thanks in advance for your responses! I’m really hoping they are positive!

You work experience is more-so evaluated on your duties rather than job titles. You can contact the HRSDC for free and they can assist you in determining the best NOC code for your duties - http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/ContactUs.aspx - send them a list of your duties and give it about a week for a response.

If you have the 2 years of valid work experience then you won't need an LMO as you already met the requirement. If your work permit is open and valid for another 2 years, then you are in a pretty comfortable position as your application should process (assuming no major issues) within that time before you need to renew it.

Lastly, if you're applying as a temporary foreign worker (with 2 years experience), then your education isn't that much of a factor. It may only be a factor if they are assessing your work experience in a regulated NOC code, but even then there is some flexibility.

If you have some education from a Canadian institution you should include it in education section of the CEC application. It may not be much of a factor for the temporary foreign worker stream but isn't a disadvantage either.

My first two year visa prevented me from studying formally here (although I have learnt French through alliance francaise, technically not "education"). Strangely, my second visa doesn't have a study condition on it.

Thanks for the helpful responses! As one proud torontonian, I'm looking forward to one day being a proud austro-Canadian as well!
