Applying Work Permit from outside of Canada and getting it inside

I am seeking clarification on specific aspects of the Canadian Work Permit process.

To provide some context, my family and I currently hold valid Canadian tourist visas. We are in the process of preparing for a Work Permit application, supported by a job offer under an LMIA from my business partner’s company based in Alberta state. We understand that bureaucratic delays in processing these applications are common and unpredictable.

Our plan is to travel to Canada during the summer, after submitting the Work Permit application from our country, and spend the summer time with orienting ourselves while awaiting the application outcome. This would include finding rental accommodations near schools suitable for our two children in preparation for the new school year.

I would greatly appreciate your guidance on the following point:

Since Work Permit applications must be submitted from outside Canada, I am curious about the logistics of receiving the Work Permit document once approved. Specifically:

Can the Work Permit document be delivered to someone at our address in our country, other than the primary applicant?

Alternatively, would it suffice for the approved Work Permit holder to return to our country to collect the document and then re-enter Canada?

You can not and should not relocate to Canada without an approved work permit. You could be denied entry to Canada if it appears as though you are trying to move to Canada and not just visit. Also WP is far from guaranteed so it makes no sense to come to Canada before you know the WP has been approved. Most landlords will also not rent to people as a visitor with not proof of a job or ability to work in Canada.

Why you would put the proverbial cart before the horse in this situation is a bit mind boggling

You’re acting like your work permit is a done deal
