Hi,

I have a general inquiry about applying a Canadian visitor visa.

My girl friend is planning to visit me from Hong Kong and she is currently a Hong Kong Document of Identity holder.
But with her situation, she is a free lancer but is currently unemployed and is hard for her to proof her finance.
Is there any way to substitute her proof of finance? I will be paying for her ticket and accommodation and she only wants to visit for a few weeks.
So basically I will be paying for her stay in Canada, will my proof of finance work for her?
If she owns properties in Hong Kong/China with proof, will that work?
I am a Canadian Citizen and can write her a Letter of Invitation, is the letter helpful at all?
What other ways can be used to help her successfully obtain a Canadian visitor visa?

Thanks for your time

Hi,

As your girlfriend is self-employed, some suggestions to prove that she has earned an income are:
a. Bank statements (especially if clients have paid directly into her bank account then these transactions can be highlighted)

b. Purchase Orders/Works Contracts (emails, signed POs/Works Contracts, etc)

c. Payment stubs

d. Business registration documents, if any

e. Tax returns for the last 2-3 years

f. If possible, an audited Balance Sheet from a Chartered Accountant

g. She can give an Explanation with names/contact details of companies/institutes/etc which she has worked with

h. If she is earning any rental income, then proofs of that, including rental agreements, rent receipts, etc

i. Credit Card statements, in a way, would indicate her credit worthiness

Yes, an Invitation Letter would help. You can mention you are paying for her airfare and accommodation. The more you show that you are funding her trip to Canada, the weaker her case becomes since she is a freelancer.

Apart from the Invitation Letter, you should provide your T4, NOA, bank statements, etc

If she has on-going/in-the-pipeline projects/work in HK itself then this will indicate that she is not likely to work, in Canada, during her visit.

She could also give a day-by-day detailed Itinerary with expense estimates (in CAD).... and ideally, she must prove that she has the finances for this.

Your girlfriend needs to demonstrate that she has stronger ties to HK with good reasons to go back. Other points that can help:
Properties (agreements, tax receipts, etc): It must be translated into English, if in any other language.... if she has purchased a property with her earnings or as a financial investment then this will also help

Family Ties

Financial Investments, etc

Hope this helps. All the best :)
