Applying to IEC while within Canada

Hello folks

I'm in a bit of a bind. I've been here since last year on the 2012 initiative and it's about to expire in a week. The 2013 forms still haven't been released and it's looking like I will have to downgrade my status to visitor while I wait.

Can I apply to the IEC, while in Canada on visitor status? The faqs say you can while on a work permit, which I won't qualify for in a week. They don't seem to mention visitor status anywhere, which makes me wonder.

Hey there Jlow,

I too will be applying while here as a visitor. I will still put my correspondence down here in Canada. As far as I am aware, this is not a problem. I just want the CIC to hurry up and release the visas already!

Just make sure you have your police certificates ready!

You should be able to change your status within Canada to visitor. Once the IEC program opens, apply for the new work permit. Once approved you will have to re-enter Canada and present your LOI at immigration to get your new work permit.

Thank you for the link. Do I need to have applied for labor market opinion for this as it is asking for a LMO no. on the application form?

Hi guys - It depends on which country you're in. Some allow you to apply outside and some require you to be in the country when applying. You need to check the website for your country's IEC.

If you want to change your status to visitor, you won't need a lmo number.
You only need the lmo for a new or extension of a work permit.

Hello, I have been approved and received my Port.Of.Entry. letter while within Canada since now 1 year since December 2021. I have also received my visitor extension in January 2023. Till August 2023. Fact is I lost my passport its in renewal. And want my work permit to be mailed at my adress here in Quebec ...

Argued several times by web form to make understand this to the agents. Always come with same response( apply for a work permit .while supplying my biometrics and poe proof) but I can't wait their response which take decades especially now that they are on strike. And I received many emplpyer offers already .

How can the Ircc agent mailed me my work permit the fastest way..?
