Applying from Germany: Fingerprints needed?

Hi all,

I was wondering if I need to get my fingerprints taken in Germany (in adition to the police certificate) ? (I'm the applicant and my wife is the sponsor).
In the guidelines it is written: "•A set of fingerprints, if required by the authority of the country. Your local police or RCMP may be able to tell you where you can get fingerprints done. "
(I also lived in Canada before and need a police certificate from there as well).

You will need to obtain PCC from each country you resided in for 6months or more since turning 18 years of age. So, if Germany requires you to send in fingerprints to them to get your PCC from Germany, then yes you will need to get fingerprints and send them in. The prints are NOT sent to CIC, but to the country/gov't of which you are trying to obtain your PCC from. The PCC is what is sent with your application.

So, if Germany requires you to send in fingerprints to them to get your PCC from Germany, then yes you will need to get fingerprints and send them in. But now I am confused if I need a Canadian PCC as I lived in Canada before. On the other hand, it is written: "...for each country other than Canada, in which you have lived for six (6) consecutive months ....". So I guess not.. But I would like to hear another opinion. Thank you!

Yes, it does clearly state other than Canada. This is because you will have given them your history since you were 18 years old. Don't go with the 10 year bit, unless of course you are only 28 years old If you have residence in Canada for more than 6 months, CIC will contact RCMP for any police clearances they need for Canada only.

To get a Police Clearance from Germany you don't need to send fingerprints. Just go to your local Rathaus and order a Führungszeugnis (costs 13 euros).

If you lived in Canada before, you don't need to send a Police Clearance from Canada together with your application (only in certain cases this is required). The visa office will request it from you later on if they need it (sometimes is not necessary, because in general they do their own checks within Canada). http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/canada.asp
