Applying for work permit while on six month visitor visa and awaiting spousal sponsorship decision.

Hey guys! I’m an Australian citizen and I applied under spousal sponsorship with my Canadian wife on November 30th. It was lodged as an outside of Canada application.
I arrived back in Canada on December 22nd on a six month visitor visa. I’m just wondering how I apply for a work permit while I await the PR application decision? Is there any extra steps needed because I have a PR application lodged?

-Update your address with IRCC.
-You wait for the AOR (acknowledgement of receipt), 1-3 months after applying, and then apply for the spousal open work permit.
