Hello Friends,

I came to Canada in the month of August with my family. At the port of entry, immigration officer did not give Visitor record to my because she did not have medical exam. Instead, he gave 6 months visa to her which is set to expire in February 2022. Since then, we applied for the visitor record extension of my wife and have been waiting since September for that.

In the meantime, my wife is now thinking about applying for spousal work permit. I want to ask
- Can my wife apply for spousal open work permit while her visitor record extension application is being processed?
- What will be the duration of open work permit for her given the fact that her visitor visa expires on Feb 2022 while my work permit is still valid till August 2024.

Thanks,
Vikas

Yes your wife can apply for visitor extensions while also applying for OWP. She will retain her visitor status until she receives SOWP. TRV is only to enter Canada. You will need to check on the expiry date of her TRV. If it expires before 2024 you can apply for a new one.
