Applying for work permit at Toronto airport

I've received an offer for an intra-company transfer to Toronto. They need me there by mid-August which I've been adviced it is doable because I am a UK citizen and can apply for a work permit at Toronto airport when I land. Despite assurances and coaching i will be receive from company lawyer, I am still a bit nervous about this and just wondered if others had a similar experience recently.

Also to make things more complicated, my partner, with whom I've lived with for 3 years and would count as my common law partner I guess, is a first generation Canadian born overseas and has Canadian citizenship. Given the tight timescales, he might not have a job offer before we go over but has been advised by family to travel with his British passport into the country. Can I not include him on my work permit application?

Apologies if this has been covered already.

Doesn't make things complicated at all. In fact, him being Canadian makes things A LOT easier for you :)

Does he have his Canadian passport? If he does, then ignore his family's advise, he should enter Canada using his Canadian passport. If he doesn't have his Canadian passport, then he can enter on his British passport. He should take his Canadian Certificate of Citizenship to show at the border as well.

He doesn't need to be included in your work permit application because he is already a citizen and therefore has the right to freely enter and work in Canada.
