Hi All,

I am a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) holder. After completion of studies in Canada, I had applied for and received my PGWP in May 2014. I have applied for Express Entry and am awaiting the results of the next round of invitations. I would like to continue to stay in Canada after May 2017.

I am applying for a Temporary Visitor Visa from within Canada to extend my stay here. I have 3 queries regarding that:

1. Under "Purpose of my visit", should I choose "Visit" or "Other" and provide the reason to stay ("applied for Express Entry, awaiting results of next round"? Or any other reason to satisfy them?

2. Under "Background Information", they asked "Have you applied previously to enter or remain in Canada". Do I have to choose "Yes" and provide details of my Student Visa and PGWP?

3. What is the maximum duration that I can stay on TRV after the PGWP expires? Is it 6 months or more? Currently I have given a 6 month duration.

Thanks in advance.

I will assume you are applying to extend your visitor status. A TRV won't help you stay in Canada.

1. Other
2. Yes.
3. I don't get what you are asking. If you entered with a TRV and were given 6 months then you do not need to extend. If your PGWP expired then you are out of status, having a TRV doesn't extend your status by default.

It seems you are confused about terms and dates. Please clarify this first, so we can give you proper advice.

Sorry about the confusion about the terms.

I came to Canada on a student visa, got a PGWP after the end of my course. This PGWP will expire in May 2017 and I want to apply for a visitor visa to keep staying here. I have applied for Express Entry under FSW category. So I think it means that I want to apply to extend my visitor status.

So for 3) you can request as much time as you think you will need.
