Applying for TRV from China

Hi all,

My GF intends to visit me here in Canada around October 2008 for 1-2 weeks. I just want to know how difficult it would be for her to get a TRV as a tourist or visitor? She is a Chinese citizen.

Just some info...

I am a Canadian citizen. We are currently in a long distance relationship since I met her in October last year when I visited China. I also went there in December. We have known each other since May 2007.

My GF has a full-time job which she has held for nearly a year so far and she has a 4 year university degree from a Chinese college. I read they want bank statements. She does not make much money but enough to support herself (one room apartment rent) although she is living at home with her parents (she is 25). I will probably help her pay for her plane tickets which will have a return date on them and she will obviously be staying in my home during her stay.

Would it be easier to include an invite letter during her application? But I read any invitation letter indicating a romantic relationship is like a red flag from immigration even though she does intend to return to China after her visit.

Oh I am also employed in a full-time position. Salary 40k annual. 24 years old with a 4 years Bachelor degree. Still live at home with parents.

Please help. Thanks.

You should write the letter of invitation because it will help to show that she has enough resources. You should be up front about the relationship (otherwise, how would you know her?). But you should emphasize that the trip is only for a visit.

In her application, she should focus on the fact that she has a job that she has to return to. If possible, she should get a letter from her employer explaining that she is allowed a vacation of xxx days and then she's expected to return to work.

Any other facts she can include - like if she's relied on to take care of her parents or siblings - will help. Basically, include anything that would make it seem like she would need to return to her home.

Good luck.

Thanks thaiguy.

We intend to purchase round trip tickets so will that help? Obviously they will have return dates and yes she helps support her parents as only one of her parents is working (they are both over 50) but she also has an older brother who has a much higher income that supports them as well.

I don't think it will be a problem to get a letter from her employer but the reason why we picked October is because there is a national one week vacation during that time.

Round trip tickets might help a little. Not too much, though. If you provide information about the national holiday, I think that will help as well.

Thanks.

Another question. Will a rejection for TRV affect potential future sponsorship. Her trip in October is not for the purposes of getting married but we have talked about marriage in 2009 which we will hold in China since it is easier for both our families. I am worried that if she is rejected TRV it might have a negative impact on any potential future sponsorship.
