While reading some older posts - is seems that it is more difficult to receive a TRV while an out-of-country PR application is being processed.

I will be sending in the PR application to Mississauga next week, but in the meantime would love for my wife to visit - probably just for a long weekend.

Has anyone had any luck getting their spouse accepted for a visitor visa?

Would it at all matter if she applies for one while the application is in Mississauga, before the application reaches Guatemala (where she is applying for PR)

Is there any reprecussions for doing this (in case she gets denied) insofar as hurting our chances for the PR app?

Many thanks in advance

TRV applications are decided on finances (ability to support oneself during their visit) and ties to home country to convince the VO they will return after the visit, i.e. job, children, assets, property, etc.

Yes, some spouses do get TRVs. And no, if she is refused for lack of ties to home country or finances, then it won't hurt the sponsorship application. Shows you are trying to spend time together so can strengthen it somewhat.

Hi there....I didnt know how to refer you to an old post in which I got a lot of help regarding to apply for TRV while the PR.
So this was a reply from someone else (user name Frolic)....hope its helpful....in the following weeks I will be applying for my TRV too so I can go visit my husband in Canada. Good luck!!
***** **** ****
FROM FROLIC...
We did almost the same as you. Applied for a TRV for my gf at the time and was denied. Later after we were married we applied for PR. Once I had sponsorship approved we applied again for a TRV and took the application very seriously. First time maybe we didn't take it serious enough I will admit. Anyway we were approved for the TRV at that time.

Things that seemed important to include was to mention the fact that the PR was in process and that Sponsorship was approved and I even gave the case number for reference. Beyond that you still have to prove that she will return home so be sure to include what proof you can. Job at home, apartment etc. In my sponsorship letter I even made sure to mention that "she will return home to wait for correspondence regarding the PR application and it's completion". Just to show that we understood the process even. Letters could be sent to her home there to request for more information or request for interview or even passport so mentioning you understand that shows you know and intend to follow the rules.

We also listed why she was visiting...ie:meet family here for the first time...investigate where we will live once she arrives...basically giving a detailed plan of her visit. I tried to show I put thought into the plan to show it wasn't just a simple visit...to show it was more important than that.

And while some say that having a PR in process can make getting a TRV more difficult...it could also be taken as a positive indication that you are trying to follow the rules and do things the right way. You have applied for PR...and gotten past the first step and some of the waiting period...if she comes to visit now and overstays you would just be screwing up your PR application. Who would be dumb enough to do that?

So three things...
Mention the PR and Sponsorship.
Provide as detailed a visit plan as possible in the letter.
Mention she will return to continue the PR application process.

My husband, fiance at the time, applied for a TRV and mentioned that we were engaged and wanted to come visit me in Canada. The application was refused. The VO said she wasn't convinced that he will come and visit only and that his family ties are stronger in Canada.

You have to really prove that your wife will not stay in Canada and will only be here for a visit. Show proofs of her job, apartment lease, family that lives there/relatives, etc......

Good luck.

Thanks all.. the main concern of course was not interrupting the more important (PR app)... so I dont think we have anything to lose then.. Thanks for the tips.
