Hi Everyone!

So here's my dilemma. I've been working for a graphic design firm since May (2011) and the work contract expires on May 2012. Clearly, I have the required 1 year work experience needed for the CEC application as a graduate. I also work 35 hours per week. I'm looking into handing in my application sometime by the end of March 2012 and I have every form and applications ready except for the T4. I talked to my boss and he says that he doesn't issue T4 and I have to speak to an accountant since i'm responsible for declaring my gross earnings and paying any necessary taxes owed. I'm not self-employed and work strict 9 to 5, at the respected firm, use their tools and equipments, etc.

Do you guys think the tax I file with an accountant with be a reasonable alternative to the T4?

Thanks in advance!

HEY, TALK TO UR ACCOUNTANT AND SEE HOW U CAN GET A T4. U MIGHT BE DISQUALIFIED IF U DIDNT PROVIDE A T4. I THINK WITHOUT A T4, UR CONSIDERED AS SELF EMPLOYED AND THAT WILL DISQUALIFY U

WAIT FOR SENIORS TO SUGGEST FOR U..

Hi,

If you are EMPLOYED but required to deal with your own taxes... I belive your employer SHOULD provide you with a T4A?

If this is the case... and you are def employed... your employer would need to be willing to write the reference letter etc explaining... I think - I could be wrong!

there are so many issues wrong with your case

1. you have to find out if you are self-employed or not, self-employed candidates are restricted from the CEC field
2. Full time work is 37.5 hours and NOT 35 hours, so you have to work more than a year to qualify for the CEC field graduate field
3. You MUST apply after you have worked "1 year equivalent" as a CEC graduate, so applying in March instead of May will get a REJECT sign, since you started working in May2011 and NOT March 2011.

flag2009 is 100% correct.

1) It sounds like you are self-employed - Self-employed is not eligible in the CEC class. Look at your paystubs and see if any taxes are taken out. If not, then you are being paid as a self-employed contractor. Either way - If you are employed, your employer is required to issue a T4 or T4A (employed or self-employed, respectively).

2) If you work 35 hours per week, you will have to work a minimum 56 weeks BEFORE you are eligible to apply (assuming you are applying in the post-grad stream). You cannot apply before you complete the work experience requirement - if you do, it will be rejected and you will loose your $550 application fee.
