Hi

I acquired a canadian PR in 2009 as dependent of my father. However after finishing
my studies in India I joined a company here and have been working there since 2011.
My PR will expire in June 2014 and I have not completed my mandatory stay of 730
days in canada. Now, I have got admits in UBC and U Waterloo in masters program
of chemical engg. for Jan 2015 and intend to go and study. When I apply for student
visa will my previous PR status create an issue and lead to rejection ?

Kindly help. thanks

Hello, if you've a permanent resident visa then you won't need student visa to study (which is temporary). All you need is to renew your PR in Canada and start your studies. Your only problem is if you were supposed to stay in Canada for some number of days or months as a condition for renewal of your PR then you gona have some problems. If there was a clear reason which prevented you from staying in Canada like working (but you filed for taxes also in Canada), then you should contcat CIC to resolve your issue or fly to Canada and solve your issue there. GOOD LUCK

1. You haven't meet your PR status, you can try returning to Canada prior to the expiry of your PR card, but there is a good chance you willl be reported on entry. If so, a removal order will be issued, and you would be admitted for 30 days to submit an appeal. If there are no H.& C. grounds, you will lose your PR status and be removed.
2. You can apply for Travel Document from New Delhi, and if refused (most probably ) and you waive the appeal rights, you can then apply for a study permit and TRV. You will have to meet all the requirements.
