applying for student permit in another country

Hi guys!

I am an iranian student. I am now doing my master in italy. I would like to apply for a student permit to persue my studies in canada (phd). I came to know that since i have been living here for almost 2 years, I could apply in canadian embassy in rome. I want to know if the fact that i am applying from another country could have a bad impact on my chances to get the stay permit?

I guess you have pros and cons when you apply from a country that is not your home country. You will have to still show ties to your home country becuase in the country from which you are applying you are just a temporary resident. This is sometimes very hard. On the other hand, you are showing them that another country has accepted you as an international student and this might be seen as positive.
