Applying for SIN after landing without a permanent address yet

Hello folks,

I just landed in Canada three days ago, and I have been putting all my effort in finding a suitable place to live for the next several years (I can't live too long in Airbnb). I was told at the immigration that receiving a SIN at a Service Canada branch is one of the first things I need to do after landing. My question is, will I need to provide a permanent address in order to apply for a SIN?

Also, I already had a SIN number when I was studying in Canada years ago, but I was told to go to Service Canada anyway. Will my old SIN be discarded and will I be getting a completely new SIN? I guess this information must be written somewhere but I failed to find the information (both on the internet as well as my welcome package), so I decided to use this forum to ask.

Thanks in advance!

You don't need address proof for SIN. COPR is enough. If they ask then mention AirBnB address. Yes, you will be getting new SIN. Your credit history from old SIN will carry over to new SIN automatically.
