Hi All,

I have recently got married in March'2014. My husband has applied for Canada PR for both of us (he is already staying in Canada). But, I have applied with my surname as before marriage and with existing passport details. Now, I have to apply for re-issue of my passport with address changed after marriage and with spouse name added.
As I have submitted the application form with old passport details and going for the change process now, please let me know if this would create any issue later.

Thanks

it depends on how far into the process you are. if you can get your new passport in time for your passport request, you are fine. Get it done as soon as possible so you don't run out of time!

I just went through this myself, and i waited too long. I just got my passport request, and am unable to get my passport changed to my married name in time, so i am waiting to change my name until after i get my PR card. I have been told, after the first card is issued, it's possible to apply for a new one and get the name changed on it.

Hi

I have another query. Will my old passport attached with the new one or will the officials keep my old passport with themselves after invalidating it ? If yes, then what proof I need to submit to the CIC people as I have submitted my PR application form with existing passport details which are of before marriage i.e. Surname, address and father's name.
Surname change, address and spouse name to be added in the new passport.

Thanks

when you send in a copy of your new passport, you will need to include the applicant name, file and UCI number, so they will know which application to attach it to. Your email or cover letter needs to say specifically a new passport has been issued for the applicant because of a name change.

If your husband has received any communication from CIC about the application, it will provide directions to contacting your visa office. You need to follow the specific guidelines from your visa office about how to contact them in case of changes to your name.

CIC won't be able to process the old passport because it will be invalid. If they somehow don't get your case specific inquiry, they will probably request the updated one anyway at the end of the process. I would think there is a slim chance of there being confusion. it is a normal request from applicants.

I guess I am at the right place as I have a doubt about my Passport.

My passport is expiring in January 2015 and I have to send my PR application ASAP. My query is that if its OK to send the application with the passport that I have or get it renewed first? If I do apply for renewal it may take a while and my application will get further delayed. I was told by someone at the "Passport Seva Kendra" that they stamp the VISA on passports that has 1 year or above in expiry. I am totally confused as to how should I do to tackle this situation so that there are no issues created at a later stage?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :)
