Hi,

I will be completing by 730 days in February 2025 and will be applying for my PR Renewal first week of March (a week's buffer). I have my brother's wedding coming up in March 2025 that I will need to attend in India.

The idea is to travel to India for 2 weeks in March 2025 and apply for PRTD so that I can come back to Canada since I am a full-time employee here in Canada.

I would like to understand the risk involved if my PRTD gets denied and what are the circumstances under which the PRTD can be denied or delayed.
Is there a way to apply for PRTD under the "urgent category" if I can get a letter from my employer? If so, what should the letter include?

There is no urgent category.

The risks are that processing could take longer than 2 weeks and you may have to remain outside of Canada longer. Since you will be very close to the 730 days, it's possible IRCC may review your application more closely to make sure you meet RO.

Do you happen to have a valid US visa?

To address a question I missed, PRTD should only be denied if you don't meet RO.

Assuming you are sure you meet RO, the risk you run is that processing could be delayed.

@scylla Yes, I do have a valid US Visa.
Then you best option is to have a return flight that takes you to the US and then to re-enter Canada through a land border using a private vehicle.

Given I won't have a valid PR card and PRTD, is entering through land border a possibility?
I do have an Ontario driver's license and I can possibly get a letter from my employer.

You will be allowed in. You don't need a letter from your employer

If you will be completing RO in February will you not meet the RO in March? After the first 5 years you need to meet the 730 days within 5 years on any day to be compliant with your RO.
