Hi guys, this seems like such a simple question but after searching on here and other forums I have found so many differing opinions I'm completely confused now! My partner and I are planning to apply for Common Law PR from inside Canada and would like to get a temporary working visa whilst we wait for the application to be processed.

We would also like to be able to leave Canada to go on holidays, etc if required. I also work in a field that may require me to travel abroad. The CIC site says once I have the necessary work visa that leaving shouldn't be a problem:

.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=248&top=28

However, I have read that it could be a major issue and that it is basically up to the border officer to let me back in or not..? Does anyone know with 100% certainty on this?

Current waiting time is 12 months. Oh and for those that aren't aware there have been some major changes to the application process for spousal applicants - all in a very good way as far as I can tell! Yeah Trudeau!!

.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1320&top=14

When a non-Canadian arrives at the border, it is always up to the border officer to let you in or not. Canadian citizens and PRs (NOT applicants) have a legal right of entry to Canada. People on work permits do not.

The first link you posted sums it all up nicely. You can leave. You must meet admissibility criteria before being allowed back in. You may not be allowed back in. If you are not allowed back in, your application could be deemed abandoned and you would need to reapply from outside.
