Hi,

I would like to get Canada ASAP and begin a self-employed contract with my employer. LMIA is not an option. My plan is as follows: Apply for WH (2 years UK) and PR at the same time, with the view that the working holiday process will be much quicker. How easy is it to then continue PR application once in Canada on WH? Will this greatly complicate things? If I get accepted for both, should I just continue with both? Are there many pros and cons to this strategy?

Thanks for any information in advance.

Kind regards,
Andy.

An IEC/Working Holiday Visa is certainly a feasible way to come to Canada and hopefully translate that into PR. How possible it is depends on whether you meet the requirements of the PR program you decide you apply under. For example, if you are going to apply under Express Entry, it will depend if you can achieve 440+ points (which seems to be the minimum required right now to be selected).

There are a couple of cons to this strategy. The first is that IECs for the UK are no longer being issued this year (there are all used up) - so you'll have to wait until the 2019 program opens. The second is that for the UK, this program is always oversubscribed - meaning there are far more applicants than visas available. It's a random draw - so impossible to say if you will be lucky enough to be selected or not. Make sure you set up your profile as soon as the 2019 program opens (I think that's in November).

No issues applying for PR while on an IEC/WHV.

Thanks for your reply. I have 456 points so selection shouldn't be an issue. Yes i'm hoping to apply again in November for 2019 once the pools open, with the understanding of over subscription.

I understand you can apply for PR while on IEC/WHV. Could I be ITA for IEC/WHV if I've accepted an ITA for Express Entry or vice versa? Can you complete and submit your forms for both simultaneously?

Sorry, I don't understand what this means: "Could I be ITA for IEC/WHV if I've accepted an ITA for Express Entry or vice versa?"

ITA is a step in the Express Entry PR process.

I believe an invitation to apply is the next phase if selected for either a IEC/WHV or Express Entry pool? So if I applied for both IEC/WHV and Express Entry (entering both pools for the separate visas) I may receive an ITA for both? Am I then able to proceed with my application for both simultaneously?

They are two completely different processes. One is PR and one is a work permit. You can do both.
