Hi Everyone,
I am currently on a valid study permit, and my official date of completion for my program is August 15, 2025. I am planning to apply for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) and had a question regarding the timing of the application.

Considering the current estimated processing time of approximately six months, I was wondering if it is possible to submit my PGWP application before receiving my official program completion letter. I am aware that the completion letter is a required document, but I am considering including an explanation letter instead, confirming my expected completion date and requesting that my application be held until the official completion letter is available.

My intention is to initiate the processing timeline early so that I may receive my PGWP sooner(For example: If I submit my application in july 15 with explanation letter before my actual completion date August 15, I might get my approval in the month of January, 2026 considering 6 months processing time instead of February, 2026). Could you please advise whether this approach is acceptable under current IRCC guidelines, or if my application would be refused or delayed without the official letter at the time of submission?

No. Don't do it. It could be refused as you are trying to circumvent the rules when you don't have the correct documentation.

I understand this; however, I would like to know the likelihood of my PGWP application being reviewed within one month, considering the current standard processing times. Are there instances where documents are being processed faster than the estimated timeline?
Additionally, could you please advise if there are any steps I can take to help shorten the processing time for my PGWP application?

Thank You

Thank You

Files are typically reviewed to ensure they are complete before you get AOR. Without the letter you will be refused. Bad idea. No way to process faster.

This is the official document from school you need.
  • Proof of Completion: This is typically a letter of completion from your educational institution and official transcripts confirming your graduation.

When you apply for your PGWP, you need one of the following to prove you’ve completed your studies:

  • a degree or diploma
  • an official letter from your school
  • an official transcript or a copy of your transcript from your school’s website
If you can get one of the following documents, then you can apply.
