Applying for jobs from the UK

Hi everyone!

I hope someone can help me with a bit of advice.

My husband and I are planning to make the big move across the pond to Canada (Ontario) from the UK. I am Canadian and will be sponsoring him on a spousal visa.

We’re hoping to secure a job offer beforehand as it’s far less scary to move when you have security already in place (especially as we have a young daughter). Can anyone please advise as to what the best course of action is? Should he wait until the permit comes through and then start applying for jobs, or should he be applying now in the hopes it might speed up the process? Or is it just a complete waste of time applying for jobs from the UK?

He’s an SEO/Digital Marketing Manger and there are quite a few jobs on Workopolis etc. that he could apply for. Should he find out if the companies accept applications from abroad before applying or just apply for them in the hopes they think he's worth all the hassle?

We want to avoid having to pay an agency to do this as it’s hard to tell which are genuine and which are scammers. He's the breadwinner of the family and I look after our daughter, so me having to work is an option we (especially me ;D) would like to avoid!

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Many thanks,
Leanne

as a Canadian you're probably aware of the ground rules here in Canada. most resumes pretty much get straight to nowhere unless you know someone who's currently working (or who know someone who's currently working) with the company you're applying for. so the best strategy is still to go through your network - especially when the number of potential employers is limited it's worth to spend some time doing your homework before sending out your application. The good news is that as a brit his chances are much better than of any other nationals.
A word of caution: do not pay anyone for finding you a job - legitimate headhunters/agency charge the employer not the applicant...

My fiancé applied for a few jobs before we landed and heard nothing back. When we arrived and he had contact details in Canada he got interviews for the same positions he had applied for originally.
Like clubcanada says, I would definitely get him signed up with recruitment agencies (once you have a landing date)
Good luck !!
