Hi,
My family is applying for citizenship, but I found that their passports have expired seven months ago. One of the documents to be submitted with the citizenship application is the photocopy of the main page of the passport. Can the expired passports be used for that purpose. Getting passports renewed will take a long time, and I want apply as soon as possible to avoid the possible changes in citizenship rules. Thanks

The changes to the citizenship rules won't come into effect until June 2015. So you should be able to apply under the old rules until then. You got 1 year to submit the application. Plenty of time for you to get your new passport if you wanted a valid passport.

When sending the citizenship application, is anyone sending copies of the passport pages that have entry/exit stamps or is this something only verfied at the interview?

Not required. Also I don't see how this can help. Sending them 3, 4 or 10 stamps doesn't mean that your disclosing ALL the trips you made. Maybe there are other stamps you're hiding !! Maybe you have another passport or travel document you're not declaring. So the key word here is CREDIBILITY.
Either the trust you and they believe all the info provided is accurate or they don't and they think you're hiding something, in which case a few copies of passport stamps won't help. That's why when they send an RQ they ask for all kind of documents to prove you were indeed in Canada during the time you claim you were. You can send copies of 10 passport you have used but what if you had 11 ?

I think the issue in this case is not that you apply with expired passports rather it is how would you prove that you didn't travel during the 7 months gap. They will suspect you had another travel document. So expect a RQ to prove you were in Canada all the time. You can renew your passports now it won't take that long I guess but you will still have the 7+ months gap
I don't understand this -- you would think that living in Canada with no valid passport would be excellent proof that one is present here. My wife's passport expired last year, and we're going to be applying for citizenship this year, is this going to cause her difficulties?
