Hello,

I have lived more than 1095 days as a permanent resident (landed immigrant) in Canada however my wife has left Canada for 8 consecutive months and she was the principal applicant when we applied through the skilled worker class. She is now living in my country of origin with my kids because she feels too depressed. I was wondering if can I apply for citizenship without the principal applicant? and if so, my kids would get the citizenship as well even if they are not currently in Canada?

Thank you in advance for your answers...

If you have more than 1095 days in Canada as a PR in the past 4 years, you can apply regardless of your wife. Your children would need to be residing in Canada for you to apply for them but they do not have to have spent 1095 days. If you can not bring the children to you in order to apply for them, you can leave it for now but once you have your citizenship, you can join your wife and children in your homeland. Your citizenship will protect the PR of your children and wife because they are all seen as accompanying a citizen outside Canada. That way, your children would still have the option of moving to Canada when they are older and can stay long enough to apply for citizenship as well if they want to.
