Applying for citizen after 6 years of being a PR

Hello.

I am a Permanent Resident of Canada effective February 2012. But due to certain commitments at home, I had to return to my home country and plan to stay here for the next 3 years (till Feb 2015). Then in order to maintain my PR status I plan to go back in Feb 2015 and stay for the next 2 years in Canada to maintain my PR status (need to stay 2 years in 5 years to maintain PR status). My question is then how will I be eligible for citizenship. Would I need to stay for 3 years starting Feb 2015. Confusion is that I read on the CIC website that u need to stay for 3 years out of 4 years preceding your application. What does 'PRECEDING YOUR APPLICATION' mean. Does that mean I may only apply for a Canadian citizenship if I stay for 3 years starting Feb 2012. Please clarify.

you need to stay for 3 years starting Feb 2015, so you can apply in Feb 2018, in that case in the last 4 years i.e. from Feb 2004 till Feb 2018 you stayed 3 years

It refers to the 4 years preceding the date of your application.

If you sign your citizenship application on 2018 Feb 20, it will consider the time period 2014 Feb 20 - 2018 Feb 20.

Basically the applicant need to be physically present in Canada for 1095 days out of 1460 days.

If you send citizenship application on 2015 Feb 20, the 4 year time period 2011 Feb 20 - 2015 Feb 20 will be considered. If you are physically present in Canada for 1095 days, you are eligible for citizenship.

So yes. If you stay continuously in Canada till 2015 Feb, you are eligible.
