Applying for CEC - Need help on NOC Code-jes_ON Please help

I am a software test (QA) analyst. I have been working in Canada since 2007. Following are the "Occupation" mentioned in my Work Permits.

1st WP - Iteract Media Prog & Developer
2nd WP - Iteract Media Prog & Developer
3rd WP- Software Products Developer
4th WP- Iteract Media Prog & Developer.

All these occupations refer to NOC Code 2174. But my roles and responsibilities match with NOC Code 2173 and the same roles and responsibilities are listed in the employment reference letter.

Please advise which NOC code should I enter in the application form for CEC? Does it matter if the NOC code entered in the application form for CEC and the NOC code in the WP are different?

Before I make any suggestions - I'm wondering what YOU think is the main difference between the two NOCs. (I've read them and have an idea, but I want to know what you think).

My roles and responsibilities closely match with 2173 /2283 since I am from software testing field. But I understand NOC 2174 is mostly related to developers and programmers.

My recent work permit was thru LMO. In all my WP applications to CIC i have been giving my exact duties and designation.But still I have no idea how the immigration officers choose the NOC.

I am afraid,it might be problem for me, if there are any discrepancy in the NOCs

Hmm... well, you didn't really answer my question - I'm not in the field so I don't know how experts would see the difference, but based on language alone - 2173 has a systems focus, where 2174 develop and test applications - to me, "software testing" sounds like 2174 (testing appears in both).

But both are skill level A, and I don't think CIC will see a great difference. I would list the NOC that is on your work permit.

On the other hand, you mentioned your job also being similar to NOC 2283 - which is skill level B, and only you know if this is the correct level for you. As long as you meet the IELTS score for level A, it probably won't be an issue either.
