I am a Canadian citizen, married to an Englishman, living in the UK. Both of our children were born in the UK but we now want to move to Canada. (I'm applying to sponsor my husband... but that's a whole other problem)!!

I understand that both of my children can apply for Canadian citizenship, however, I have a few questions:

* My son is 6 years old - he has a UK passport, but what other forms of ID can he use to prove who he is?!? Will his NHS number suffice?
* My daughter is 18 months - she has a UK passport, and I believe she only needs one form of ID because she's under 6. Is this true?

* Does it really take almost a year to process their applications? We were hoping to get my son started in a Canadian school for the September 2015 intake. Or, does anyone know if he can attend anyway while his application is going through, without being a Canadian citizen?

Hopefully someone can help answer my questions. I'm a bit overwhelmed!
