Hi All,

Quick question about applying as a PhD student in USA. I am 2 years into my program and I have worked continuously as a graduate research assistant and my duties fit in perfectly with NOC 4012. If I am invited to apply can they object to me being a student in another country? I currently have a CRS of 456. Also, if being a PhD student is not an issue, will they allow me to move back and forth to USA and Canada to complete my program or do they expect you to terminate your program? Thanks!

No, they cannot reject you for being a student.

Once you are a PR you are free to do and live wherever you please. Just be aware of the residency obligations to maintain PR status in Canada.

THanks so much for the response. Just a quick follow up. My employment is contingent upon me being enrolled full time as a student and I am also not a citizen or resident of USA. Does this change anything? I do have the official tax documents and timesheets to prove that I do work 20 hours a week as a graduate research assistant.

The fact that is contingent is irrelevant, your work experience will be evaluated based on the year(s) that you have already worked not on your current and/or future work experience.
