Hello everyone,
I am going back to China this summer, however my trv is expired. I graduated for University of Calgary in December 2010, and I got my post graduation work permit few months later. I am currently unemployed, but I am willing to work in Canada. Therefore, my question is do I need a job to renew my trv, especially when i renew it outside of Canada? Looking forward to your response.

No, not necessarily. But I would apply to renew it before you leave Canada. You can apply to the nearest Consulate/Embassy in the US.

Thank you for your help, but my flight is may 17th, so I think it is a little bit late to renew it before i leave Canada, however i will definitely consider this option. One more question, how long does it take to renew a visa, and what kind of risk I will take if i decide to renew my trv in China(I guess that is two questions). Thanks for your concerns and have a nice weekend.

According to this site, 2 days for Hong Kong and 7 for Beijing. Go to the websites for those specific visa offices and read the instructions thoroughly.
