She should apply to come as a tourist. If she says that she is coming to take care of your wife, will likely be regarded as illegal work and the visa refused.

If she hasn't traveled very much or at all in the past, she should request a 2-3 week trip maximum.

Hi,

I would go with scylla's advice.

Any reference that your mom is coming to take care of your wife/baby is equivalent to her working illegally on a TRV even if it is unpaid.

Another point:
With you, your wife and your brother in Canada.... your mom must be able to prove she has more reasons to return to her home country.... to overcome the strong family ties in Canada reason

Cheers

thanks Bryanna and scylla

i dont know this before that it will be considered illegal work.
as of relations in home country she has a husband(govt. employee) and a son studying, her mother, father, her house in home country.

now you are saying that I should not mention my wife's pregnancy in visa application ?
then on what grounds she can come to visit canada for max 3-4 months?
i have these options:
* a son studied there and currently on work permit with good job ( visited home country 6-7 months back)
* a son currently on study permit ( entered canada 2 months back)
* a daughter in law currently on open work permit ( entered 1 week ago)

any advice would be greatly appreciated !!

These are good reasons/ties. She must submit adequate evidence for her family ties in her home country (dependent on her) + property owned by her.

Your mom must apply for 2-3 weeks visit as a tourist.

She must not apply for 3-4 months. And, as explained earlier, do not mention that she is visiting to take care of your wife/baby

Can i applystating that " i want my mother to be present at the birth of her first grandchild so i am inviting her to canda"
But also i'm on study permit and don't have funds to support her.
whereas my brother is on Post grad work permit, working full time but not reason to invite mother.

Help me with purpose of visit..
What approach should i take.

This is what I suggest:
1. Your brother (and NOT you) must invite your mom.

2. You don't need a life-changing reason like the birth of a baby to invite a family member. Mentioning about wanting your mom to visit because of your baby will almost certainly lead to a TRV refusal

3. The purpose of visit (when your brother invites her) will be as a tourist + to see how he lives/works/spend time with him

4. Your mom must keep her visit to 3-4 weeks max

5. Your mom must prove (with evidence) that she has the finances to pay for her visit + she has strong reasons to return to her home country

Hi all,

Why do we need to hide the fact that we are inviting grandmother for support.

For example in my case, I am a permanent resident of Canada and in my pregnancy during the last 4-5 months, I would lke to invite my mother as my husband has been posted overseas and have no one to stay with me. it is not like I am going to make her work but just for support in case some thing goes wrong in pregnancy, there must be some one with me.

So why can I not tell them the truth and say I want to invite my mother so that I have some psychological support?

ok thanks for the advice Bryanna, u have been great help to me, i will go with you!
also one more thing!
to whom the letter of invitation should be addressed?
i came across many samples of invitation letters, some of which
are addressed directly to canadian embassy and some to the person to be invited.

could you be by any means send me a sample letter of invitation that is accepted?
thank you

also can both the brothers invite using same letter of invitation ?
i study in university at edmonton, would it be any help if i get some letter of support
from my university?

Hi Gagan,

The invitation letter should be addressed to the visa officer. It should be factual (not emotional). IMO, details presented point-wise are easier to read than long, run-on sentences.

This will help: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/letter.asp

Your brother is better established than yourself. It would be best if he invites your mom.

Do post the list of documents/strong ties which your mom will submit so that we can advise

Cheers
