Country of Citizenship: Mexico
Country of Residence: Japan
Application: Work Permit made outside of Canada
Date of submitted application through CIC's website: March 11, 2016

Hello! I need an advise about my situation. My first day at work should be next Monday March 21 in BC, I'm currently waiting for an update in my work permit application but is already past 1 month and in "the processing times applying from Japan" says it lasts around 1 month. I already sent an inquiry to visa office in Manila for asking about my situation but it says they will check in the next 28 working days!

The company which offered me the job told me I can apply in the port of entry (airport) and get the work permit in the same day, the problem is, by doing this, as a Mexican I need to apply for a visitor visa. If I apply from Japan it takes 15 days, and if I apply from Mexico it takes 5 days. I'm currently living in Japan, but I could travel to Mexico if necessary for this. The thing about this way is: I saw the document checklist for Visitor Visa and there are things that concerns me because I need to prove like Purpose of Travel (I suppose to get visitor visa for travelling not for working) so I need to prove where I'm gonna stay, my itinerary, and how is gonna support my stay, which basically I need to lie on these because the only reason I want the visitor visa is for get off on the airport and apply for work permit there.

So.. what should I do? , should I wait more time for get the work permit here in Japan? (its been 1 month and 2 working days since I submitted application) or should I try to get that visitor visa in Mexico or Japan and then get the work permit in the airport?

Worth mentioning that The company in BC will wait for me until April 11, no more.

Please help me!!!

The company is wrong. You cannot apply for a work permit at the border. This option is only available to those who are visa exempt and do not require a TRV to enter Canada. You have no choice but to wait for your work permit to be processed.

That makes a lot of sense now!

Many friends who went to work to Canada applied for work permit outside of Canada, only one friend applied at the airport, and she had a lot of problems to get it because she already had a visitor visa. They only gave her a few days to stay in Canada, then she brought a lawyer specialist in immigration to help her to get the work permit in the airport, at the end she was able to get it!, but I guess she went into the wrong way and she passed through all of these problems.

I though there was a possibility to do the same, but yes I reviewed the requirements for that and it says only people who are "exempt from the requirement for a temporary resident visa"

Thanks so much Scylla for clarify this!
